Marie-France Chabot

Background

Elected to the Board of Directors in September 2022, she assumed the position of Vice-President. On September 10, 2023, following the Annual General Assembly, Board members elected her as President. She has also been acting as secretary of the Association des Chabot since February 2024.

Marie-France Chabot was born in 1950. She is the daughter of Léopold Chabot and Madeleine Labrecque, both of St-Lazare. She has six sisters and four brothers. The family grew up in Lac-St-Jean. She is living in Quebec City since 1976.

Marie-France is the spouse of Jacques Couture (originally from Ste-Claire) since 1979. She is the mother of Guillaume and Laurence Chabot-Couture. She has 5 grandchildren (all boys).
She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in psychology (UQTR). She taught psychology for ten years in colleges.

She was admitted to the law school of Laval University in 1987 and graduated in 1990. A member of the Quebec Bar since 1991, she began her second career with the Native Law Section of the Quebec Department of Justice. She then joined the Faculty of Law at Laval University. She was in charge of practical training and Director of undergraduate programs until January 2005.

Since 1992, she has acquired training and experience in the field of amicable conflict resolution. From 1997 to 2007, she acted as a mediator in family, civil and commercial matters.

In 1997, she received the Louis-Philippe Pigeon award, given by the Jeune Barreau de Québec, for her involvement in the field of alternative dispute resolution and her success as a pleading coach.

Since 2002, she has developed an expertise in the investigation of psychological harassment complaints in the workplace. As a consultant, she has conducted several hundred investigations on the merits of psychological harassment complaints filed with employers. In 2022, she received the Bar Merit Award for her achievements in the areas of mediation and investigation of psychological harassment complaints in the workplace.
