As part of our trip to France to explore our roots, which took place between September 11 and 25, 2025, we had the opportunity to visit the Church of Sainte-Madeleine. The church is located in the Commune of La Ventrouze, home of Marie Mésangé, wife of Mathurin Chabot.
We saw that the church is in dire need of restoration, and following the trip, the board of directors held a fundraising campaign to collect funds to restore this heritage site to its former glory.
The Commune plans to:
- Restore part of the roof
- Replace the floor of the rood screen, which is collapsing
- Replace broken chairs with 5 or 6 rows of benches separated by a central aisle
Informed of our initiative, the municipality has decided to engrave the logo of the Association des Chabot on each of the new benches that our fundraising campaign will help to build. Each bench will cost at least €500.
Fundraising campain results:
Thanks to the generosity of the Association’s members, we raised 5,163.17$. Work on the six benches is now well underway: two are finished and installed in the church, and the other four are currently being built.
Thank you for your generosity in making this project a reality!
Marie-France Chabot, president
Association des Chabot
