As part of our trip to France to explore our roots, which took place between September 11 and 25, 2025, we had the opportunity to visit the Church of Sainte-Madeleine. The church is located in the Commune of La Ventrouze, home of Marie Mésangé, wife of Mathurin Chabot.
We saw that the church is in dire need of restoration, and following the trip, the board of directors decided to hold a fundraising campaign to collect funds that will be used to restore this heritage site to its former glory.
In 2026, the Commune plans to:
- Restore part of the roof
- Replace the floor of the rood screen, which is collapsing
- Replace broken chairs with 5 or 6 rows of benches separated by a central aisle
Informed of our initiative, the municipality has decided to engrave the name of the Association des Chabot on each of the new benches that our fundraising campaign will help to build. Each bench will cost at least €500.
Our goal is to raise 5,000 euros, the equivalent of 8,250 Canadian dollars. The fundraising campaign has currently reached 1,042 euros, or 1,690 Canadian dollars.
A notable contribution of 1,000 euros was made by Marie-France Chabot, President of the Association, and her spouse, Jacques Couture.
You can support the fundraising campaign by sending an Interac e-transfer to the email address lgchabot@association-chabot.com indicating the purpose of the transfer (Sainte-Madeleine Church Fundraising). You may also send a check payable to the Association des Chabot, specifying the purpose of your donation (Sainte-Madeleine Church Fundraising), and mail it to the following address:
